Yesterday, a contingent of Occupy Wall Street protestors went to a Citibank branch to close their bank accounts. There’s been a moment for a while now to sanction the large banks by moving our money to local banks and credit unions. This is a small step you can take as the government appears unwilling to actually investigate or prosecute banks for fraud. If anything, the government has been complicit in fraud.
So moving your money is just one small act of defiance. Apparently this was too much. Citibank had the protestors arrested for attempting to close their accounts. They even went so far as to abduct a female protestor that was waiting outside the bank.
More on this story at Naked Capitalism and at Daily Kos.
You should raise hell about this one. Call Congress. The White House. Write your local paper. Also, you can make a statement by doing the same thing the protestors did – move your money out of the big banks.
